It is truely amazing the leaps and bounds that have been made in both cameras and photography in the last decade. 10 years ago, digital cameras were just starting to make their way into main stream. At that poing they were still very expensive and the quality was not quite there yet. I can recall getting our first digital camera and it was basically only for use on eBay, you really didn't want to use it to take family photos due to the inferior quality of the images. Now we fast forward to today, and I bet it is rare to see someone using a standard film camera at all.

One of the drawbacks to having digital cameras is the sheer volume of photos that are now taken. I know that we easily take 4 times or more the amount of photos we normally would have on a film camera. This is where is becomes very important to choose a good software tool to help you manage your files. One of the best software tools I have found, also happens to be free. It is the picasa software by Google. I used this software even before it was taken over by Google, and we all know usually what Google gets, they only improve upon. So Picasa is now a free full features and very useful program for managing your digital photos.

You also have to learn to "let go" of some pictures, it really is not best to keep every photo taken. Weed through the photots you took at an event, and delete any that are not up to par. If they are blurry, or if they cut someone half out of the picture, it is best to delete it right away and thin out the amount of images you will have to sort through later on. So go ahead and snap away, knowing that you will be able to delete the bad ones later. This can really improve the overall quality of your photos, since you can try different angles that you may not have tried before. (since you didn't want to waste precious film). You can be sure your odds of getting a few good pictures go way up...if you take more pictures.
